NeverTheLess – May 5, 2019

Welcome To All, especially if you are visiting us today. We are delighted to have you here.  If you are visiting, we invite you to fill out a pew card and put it in the plate.

Car Wash and Lemonade Stand   Is your ride looking pollen-dingy and road-weary?  Need a gift to tell your mom how special she is?  We've got a solution!  The Annual High School Youth Group Car Wash is coming up, next Saturday, May 11, 8 am - Noon.  No set price, all donations gratefully accepted.  Proceeds will be used to fund the High School Youth Group Hurricane Florence Mission trip this summer.  And we all know that clean cars run better, right?! ... and a Lemonade Stand!   Our younger children want to get in on the fun by hosting a Lemonade Stand from 10am – 12pm.  The children will donate the funds they collect to the High School Youth Group Mission Trips.  Parents, if your child(ren) would like to participate, please contact Ana Bajcsi.  …and Pack-A-Pod, a drive to collect pots, pans, and other household items to help St. Peter’s UMC-Montpelier to support CARITAS. Details are on the bulletin boards in our hallway.

“Last Supper” Club?   Supper Club participation seems to be dwindling, and has become a potluck affair in the church once a month.  Please come to the “Last Supper” Club (for this year, anyway) to eat and discuss what Supper Club might look like going forward.  Saturday, May 11, 6:30 pm.  Bring a favorite dish to share.  All are invited.

Youth Sunday   plan to join our bright and beautiful youth as they lead us in worship at 10 am church on May 19.  Their outlook is fresh and always inspiring!  **This is a change from plans previously announced.**

Calling All Summer Camp Chenery Fund Applicants!  If you’re planning to submit an application to the Chenery Fund to receive financial assistance for summer camp, now is the time. As many of our parishioners know, the Chenery Fund has made it possible for hundreds of children to grow in Christian spirituality through the generosity of this fund. All are welcome!

Eligibility for Funding   To receive financial support for your child’s summer camp, the camp must be church-related or be an Episcopal-affiliated camp. Assistance will be considered for 50% of the total amount of the expense for first-time requests, and 25% of the total expense for subsequent requests. Payment/checks for approved funds are made directly to the camp and assumes the applicant will provide payment for the balance due.

   Timing

The Chenery Committee meets monthly to review applications and submit recommendations to the Vestry for final approval. The next meeting is Tuesday, 5/14/19. Ideally, the committee would like to receive applications at least 45 days before the funds are needed. This allows for ample time to review, submit to the Vestry and process the payment.

Application forms (entitled “Chenery Fund Scholarship Application”) are available at St. James the Less along the hallway to Brydon Hall (Information Central), or you can download them from our website at: https://www.stjamestheless.com/chenery-committee. For questions, please contact Beth Markwood, Chair of the Chenery Committee.

Parish Picnic and Family Picture Day … join us on June 2nd following 10 am church for our annual parish picnic.  We’ll celebrate the end of the program year; we’ll celebrate the long and dedicated ministries of Steve Pace, Acolyte Master and Melissa Roberts, Children’s Formation; and thanks to Susan Hubbard and Dick Shirey, we’ll get pictures of as many families as we can to put into our new directory.  We’ll provide the chicken and the beverages.  You bring a favorite dish to share.

Ashland Christian Emergency Center (ACES)   we have a bin in the hallway dedicated to donations to ACES; pinned up above the bin is a current list of items ACES folks need most.  Also, ACES is recruiting drivers for Hanover Senior Rides, a volunteer transportation program for seniors.  If you’d like to know more, call (804) 543.6115.

Nametags … we have some new staff, and we’re seeing lots of new visitors.  Please wear your nametag to help the newer folks know who we all are; it is the easiest way to offer radical hospitality!  If you don’t have one, please let Margaret know – 798.6336.

Staying Connected   would you like to receive our weekly news email (Wednesdays) and/or our Weekly Meditation (Fridays), and/or our 4th Quarter email?  If so, please contact Margaret in the office, 798.6336 or margaret@stjamestheless.church to have your email added to our list.
